What we do not store
- We do not store chat messages. Chats are relayed in memory and deleted when they end.
- We do not store your exact location. We use the coarse location your network provides, round it to a tenth of a degree, and move it by a small random amount.
- We do not store your IP address. We store a salted hash of it that changes every day, so we can stop abuse without keeping who you are.
- We do not ask for your name, email, or an account.
What we do store
- Short notes you choose to post, with the note text, a rough place (for example "Kerala, India") and the time. Notes are checked before they appear.
- Reports: the reason, a short excerpt from the reported person's last message, the time, and the hashed identifiers needed to act on repeated reports.
- Anonymous daily totals, such as how many people were online at peak and how many chats started. These contain no personal details.
Cookies and local storage
We do not set our own cookies. We save one flag in your browser's local storage to remember that you confirmed you are 18 or older. You can clear it at any time.
We show advertising through Google AdSense on some pages, but never inside the chat. Google and its partners may use cookies to show ads based on your visits to this and other websites. In the UK and EU, you will see a consent message before ads that use cookies are shown.
Children
youstillawake is for adults aged 18 and over. If you believe someone under 18 is using the site, please use the Report button in the chat.
Your choices
You can leave any chat at any time, stop sharing your light by closing the page, and clear your browser's local storage to reset the age confirmation.
